Court Awards Chernobyl Invalid 700 k
A Tyumen regional court has ruled, at the demand of the prosecutor, to award 700,000 rubles to an invalid from the cleanup of Chernobyl, ITAR-TASS has learned from the press service of Prosecutor General’s Office Ural Federal District Department. The 47-year-old resident of Tyumen took part in the cleanup of the site of the Chernobyl catastrophe and became an invalid of the second group.
“In 1994, he was awarded an invalid’s pension for the damage to his health and he began receiving monthly compensation payments as well in 1996. In 2001, in connection with changes in legislation, they were subject to recalculation and increase,” the press service explained. “However, due to the incompetence of officials in social protection bodies, the amount of compensation was groundlessly reduced, as a result of which the man was deprived of a significant sum of money monthly that he was entitled to under law.”

The staff of the supervisory agency filed a suit on the behalf of the man and the court ruled in their favor.
