Russian Businesses Worry Murdoch
American multibillionaire media magnate Rupert Murdoch has stated that he does not like the investment climate in Russia and that he is worried about keeping his businesses there. “The more I read about investments in Russia, the less I like the feel of it,” Murdoch told The Financial Times on Wednesday. “The more successful we’d have been, the more vulnerable we’d be to having it stolen from us. Better we sell now.” Murdoch was interviewed by that newspaper in Beijing.
The Financial Times reported that Murdoch’s News Corporations was “cooling” toward Russia, but Murdoch “signaled News Corp’s growing enthusiasm for Asian markets – particularly India and China.”
Murdoch was born in Australia and took U.S. citizenship in 1985. He is the owner of the world’s largest media empire, which embraces all forms of print and electronic media and film. He is the owner of the American Fox television network and The Wall Street Journal. Forbes magazine states that his personal fortune is worth $8.3 billion this year.
