iPhone to Go on Sale in Russia in 2009
Apple iPhone 3G will officially go on sale in Russia in 2009, Vedomosti reported. The Apple representatives didn’t comment on the news.
Apple IMC General Director Evgeny Butman didn’t doubt that iPhone would officially go on sale in Russia next year. A shop assistant at Z-store of Maczone said iPhone will be available after New Year. Maczone is Apple’s official dealer in Russia and the company’s Sales Director Pyotr Semenov confirmed the information.

The sales will begin in February or March of 2009, forecasted Eldar Murtazin, who is a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group.

Representatives of Russia’s cell giants, MTS, VimpelCom and MegaFon, confirmed they were negotiating iPhone supplies with Apple. But they didn’t give any details about the start of the sale or the cost of iPhone. None of mobile trio will get the exclusive right for iPhone, the sources speculate.

According to Mobile Research Group, roughly 470,000 iPhones are operating in Russia. Butman said the number is between 60,000 and 80,000.

Apple has launched App Store here, which is a part of iTunes Store and which offers software and games for iPhone and iPod Touch.
