Russia’s Army to Rely on Nanotechnology, Draftees till 2030
The draft concept of the RF Armed Forces construction elaborated till 2030 doesn’t provide for the cancellation of draft service, Gazeta reported Friday.
The concept’s wording was to be made out by July 1, but the deliberations are still underway and the document will be ready in the fall at the earliest, Gazeta reported with reference to the source with the RF Defense Ministry.

The first section of the concept describes geopolitical role of Russia, while the second half is dedicated to the actual plans for reorganizing the Armed Forces. IT, space technologies and nanotechnologies will be in the highlight in the following 22 years. The plans are to arrive at the optimal number of officers, keeping the draft along with the contract service.

The Strategic Deterrence Forces, including missile-carrying submarines, strategic bombers and Missile Strategic Forces armed with nuclear sea-based/airborne/ground-based missiles, will be the basis of the country’s Armed Forces in the following years.

The draft will be submitted to President Dmitry Medvedev by this year-end.
