A Week without Inflation!
Inflation in Russia has finally slowed perceptibly. In the week of July 22-28, there was no consumer price growth, Rosstat reported on Wednesday. Since the beginning of the month, inflation has come to 0.5 percent, and 9.3 percent since the beginning of the year. In 2007, inflation in July amounted to 0.9 percent, and 6.6 percent since the beginning of that year, Rosstat noted.
Data on the average growth of consumer prices on a daily basis also indicate the slowing of inflation this year. Between July 1 and 28 this year, the average daily growth of consumer prices was 0.018 percent, compared to 0.032 percent in June of this year and 0.028 percent in July of last year.
It was also noted that rice and salt gained in price most noticeably of all – 0.9 percent – between July 22 and 28. Prices for beef, sausages, preserved meat, millet, dry milk for babies and certain baked goods rose 0.4-0.5 percent. Chicken eggs and cheese became cheaper by 0.4 and 0.2 percent, respectively, during that week. All fruits and vegetables tracked became cheaper that week as well, by an average of 2.1 percent. Cauliflower dropped 9.8 percent in price, carrots dropped 5.1 percent, apples, potatoes and green onions dropped 0.8-1.5 percent.
The prices of gasoline and diesel fuel grew by 0.4 percent in the course of the week, Rosstat reported.
Rosstat, the state statistics service, preparedly information on weekly inflation on the basis of the consumer prices for the 50 most important goods and services on Mondays in 265 Russian cities. Russian authorities are preparing to raise the official prognosis for annual inflation this year from 10.5 percent to 11.8 percent.
