Assassination Attempt on Chechen Pres
An assassination attempt was made against President of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov in the Chechen town on Khosi-Yurt, reports the kavkaz-uzel website. Lenta.ru places the incident in Tsentroi, home of the Kadyrov family. Kadyrov was not hurt and the town has been placed under the control of enforcement agencies. No details are available yet.
The Regnum information agency reports that an attempt was made on the Chechen president’s life last week in Gudermes as well. A source in the Sever (North) battalion, which is responsible for Kadyrov’s security, told the agency that someone tried to shoot at the president with a Makarov pistol during a public event. The security service was able to disarm the attacker, although one member of the security force received a wound to the head.
Law enforcement is on high alert in Chechnya in connection with the attack.
