British Embassy Enters TNK-BP Fray
The British Embassy in Moscow has expressed concern over possible losses the conflict between TNK-BP shareholders may cause to the economies of Russia and Great Britain and the world energy market as a whole, the BBC reports. The embassy’s statement came after head of the British-Russian oil company Robert Dudley departed from Russia. Dudley is continuing to serve in his post from abroad.
Dudley said that “administrative pressure” on the company would be reduced if he worked from abroad.
Equal shares in TNK-BP are owned by British Petroleum and the shareholders of the AAR consortium (Viktor Vekselberg’s Renova, Mikhail Fridman’s Alfa Group and Leonard Blavatsky’s Access Industries). The conflict between them became known at the beginning of May. AAR charges that Dudley is acting exclusively in the interests of the foreigners. A proposal to dismiss Dudley was blocked by the British co-owners of the company at the beginning of this month.
All 148 British specialists who worked in the company have also left Russia. Dudley has a permit to work in Russia through July 2009, but his visa expires on July 29 of this year.
