Sukhoi Chief Is Amid 50 Most Powerful Businessmen of Russia
Sukhoi General Director Mikhail Pogosyan is the sole representative of the aviation industry that has been added to the list of 50 most powerful businessmen and investors of Russia, RIA Novosti reported with reference to Sukhoi Holding.
“The list has been compiled by over 60 most competent experts choosing of 125 candidates. The authors of the study attribute the increase in political weight of the aircraft company to the successful presentation of regional Superjet-100," Sukhoil Holding said in the statement.
Superjet- 100 Project is the most ambitions undertaking of Russia’s aircraft construction industry. The jets are expected to be able to compete worldwide and their current order portfolio includes 122 planes. Of this number, 98 orders are firm and another 24 will become firm in the nearest half-year.
Another project of priority at Sukhoi is Su-35 fighter of G4++, which made the first flight February 19, 2008. The start of the mass production is slated for 2011 and the plans are to form two or free regiments from these jets for Russia’s Air Force and supply them to the markets of South-East Asia, Latin America and other states.
Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller tops the rating. He is followed by RZD President Vladimir Yakunin, Rostekhnologii CEO Sergei Chemezov, RUSAL owner Oleg Deripaska and portfolio investor Roman Abramovich. Iskander Makhmudod (Ural Mining and Metal Co. (UGMK)) closes the list of 50.
