Tymoshenko Compromised with Gazprom
Ukrainian government and Russia’s gas monopoly Gazprom have compromised in fixing gas prices for Ukraine in 2009, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko announced Wednesday, when opening the cabinet’s sitting.
The methods to establish prices for the next year have been found, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko told the cabinet today when commenting on her Tuesday get-together with Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller.
The price will be finally determined after Gazprom negotiates with Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, Tymoshenko specified, pointing out that, for Ukraine, hiking the gas prices to the market values will take a few years.
The prime minister also hoped that the problems with gas intermediaries, Rosukrenergo and Ukrgazenergo, will be resolved very soon and the parties will shift to the strict and well-organized work with Gazprom.
Miller said late June the gas price for Ukraine will probably exceed $400/ths cu meters from 2009 should they agree with the Central Asia’s states on the gas prices based on the average prices in Europe.
Nowadays, Ukraine pays $179/ths cu meters for the gas.
