Medvedev Urges to Agree on Abkhazia
Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev has urged to immediately pass joint agreements spelling out the force non-use in the conflict area of Georgia and Abkhazia, Interfax reported. The sooner the agreement on the force non-use is implemented, the greater the chance will be for resolving other aspects of settlement, Medvedev made clear when meeting Germany’s Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
During the meeting, Russia’s president has confirmed the Kremlin’s orientation towards efficient and coordinated actions aimed at easing the tension and reviving the trust between Georgia and Abkhazia.

“The sooner it is implemented, the more chances there will be to resolve other complex and painful aspects of Georgia’s-Abkhazian settlement,” the president emphasized.

In return, Frank-Walter Steinmeier that arrived in Russia after visiting Georgia spoke in detail about his sittings with Georgia’s and Abkhazian leaders and about the efforts taken by Georgia and by the Group of the UN Secretary-General Friends to ease tension in the region.

Medvedev and Steinmeier also deliberated on the issues of bilateral cooperation of Russia and Germany.
