Russia’s Foreign Ministry Praised Steinmeier’s Efforts to Ease Clashes of Georgia and Abkhazia
Moscow deems constructive the actions of German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier aimed at resolving Georgia’s-Abkhazia’s conflict but urges not to superimpose additional, uncalled elements on the negotiations.
“The activity of Steinmeier is constructive. He is well-aware of our standing, and he is in Sukhumi now, familiarizing himself with the standing of Abkhazian party,” a source with the RF Foreign Ministry told Interfax Friday.

But “the main thing now is to conclude an agreement on the force non-use between Georgia and Abkhazia as part of withdrawal of Georgia’s divisions from Kodori,” the source said. “Other elements [in negotiations] won’t be called for,” the diplomat specified.

“We don’t know the result of Steinmeier’s activity yet. He will arrive today, speak of it and we will see then,” the source specified.
