Ford Satisfied in Russia
Russia may surpass Germany in Ford automobile sales in 2008-2009, Ford Russia head Nigel Brackenberry told RBC. According to Brackenberry, the growth of the automobile market in Russia is hastening the opening of new dealerships and increasing production. While he did not predict exact sales figures, he said that the Russian market has already exceeded all expectations. The company is increasing imports to Russia.
Ford automobiles are made in Russia at the company’s plant in Vsevolozhsk, Leningrad Region. The plant was opened in 2002 and was the first to belong entirely to a foreign and to be under its management. So far, $230 million has been invested in the plant. The plant is planning to expand in the summer of next year.
Ford sales in the first half of 2008 were up 20 percent compared to the previous year to 97,626 vehicles. In particular, Ford sold 46,335 Focus models (+25%), 27,258 Ford Fusion (+34%) and 6,388 Ford Fiesta (+17%).
