RF Concerned about Crimes of Nonresidents
The number of crimes that nonresidents committed in Russia surged 130 fold in the last 15 years, Valery Chernikov, chief of Interior Ministry’s Legal Department, said during the news conference dedicated to legal support of the international police cooperation and held in the RF Interior Ministry’s headquarters.
“From 2005 through 2007 separately, the number of murders grew 30 fold, robberies - 29 fold, robberies with extreme violence - 23 fold. The number of drug-trafficking crimes increased 25 fold,” Interfax quoted Chernikov as saying.

Nonresidents committed 50,139 crimes in 2007, including 45,345 together with CIS residents. Some 1,138 crimes committed by organized criminal groups were recorded the same year. Around 16,000 crimes were committed against nonresidents in Russia, Chernikov specified.

According to Chernikov, Russia directed 161 requests for extradcting the persons that committed crimes in the country, including 128 requests for CIS residents. Interior Ministry processed 547 similar requests of foreign counterparts, Chernikov said.
