U.S. Urges Russia to Justify Aggressive Statements
The “increasingly aggressive” statements that Russia makes against deployment of the U.S. missile shield in Europe aren’t justified, Lt. Gen. Henry Obering made clear in Pentagon Tuesday.
Moscow should justify its “increasingly aggressive” statements against the U.S. missile defense shield in Europe, the Associated Press reported with reference to the U.S. Missile Defense Agency Director Lt. Gen. Henry Obering. The U.S. interceptors to be stationed in the third position site won’t carry warheads, the general said.

Russia will have to respond if Washington puts missile defense components in Europe, President Dmitry Medvedev warned during the recent G8 summit in Japan. Medvedev came up with the warning after it emerged that the United States and the Czech Republic had signed an intergovernmental agreement on constructing a radar station on the Czech soil.

The RF Foreign Ministry threatened to apply “military and technical methods” should the United States sets to deploying the missile defense shield close to Russia’s borders. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called that response disappointing, although predictable.
