Over 150bn Ruble Needed to Create MS-21 Civil Jet
Creation of Russia’s new civil jet, MS-21 requires over 150 billion ruble, United Aircraft Construction Corp CEO Alexei Fedorov announced during the Farnborough Air Show 2008 that opened in Britain July 14, RIA Novosti reported.
“The overall amount of funding will be about 150 billion ruble with the state appropriations exceeding 70 billion ruble. The funding of most ambitious civil aviation project of Russia will start in 2008,” Fedorov said, specifying that some 70 billion ruble should be funneled by non-government sources.

The government will maintain high duties on foreign jets of the class comparable with MS-21. And this state policy is being implemented when negotiating with Europe about Russia’s entry to the WTO, Fedorov pointed out.

Mid-distance jets of MS-21 family will have the layout of 150 to 210 passenger armchairs. They will replace Tu-154 and Tu-204 of Russia’s make as well as the foreign A320 and Boeing 737 that are so popular in the country. The joint potential of Sukhoi SuperJet-100 and MS-21 will suffice to meet 80 percent of the new jet demand of Russia’s airlines.
