Russia to Double Space Spending in 2009
The space spending of Russia’s budget will grow more than two-fold on year in 2009, Roskosmos Deputy CEO Vitaly Davydov told Interfax-ABN during the Farnborough Air Show 2008 that opened in Britain July 14.
“We have been provided with the Finance Ministry’s threshold on the plans for budget appropriations in 2009 under the Federal Space Program, and I announce with pleasure that the increase will be more than two-fold,” Vitaly Davydov said.

According to Davydov, chief of Russia’s space agency Roskosmos managed to prove to the government the need of the adequate resource backup for all plans existing in respect of the space program. “The growth in funding will cover all directions of the Federal Space Program, not only the manned cosmonautics. We will notably advance in the field of the Earth remote probing, hydrometeorological support. All spaceships slated for takeoff in the nearest three years will be launched,” Davydov vowed.

The sizeable amount will be appropriated to develop a spaceship that will replace the existing Soyuz, the official specified.
