Adobe Plans First Release in Russia
The Adobe company, known for its graphics package Photoshop and PDF file-reader Acrobat, has begun the mass production of its products in Russia, Vedomosti newspaper reports, after the success of a pilot program begun in November of last year. Discs with the programs printed on them are being manufactured at the Sonopress plant in Yaroslavl. It is expected that Adobe will produce several tens of thousands of packaged programs this year, and hundreds of thousands next year.
Sonopress is owned by Bertelsmann. It has been producing discs with Microsoft Windows and Office and Sony BMG discs since March 2007. The launch of Adobe program production will shorten the waiting period for programs from several months to ten days.
In 2007, Abode sold program worth more than $1 billion in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, making up about a third of its receipts. It is unknown how much of that sum was generated in Russia.
