Bukovsky, Bonner Urge McCain, Obama to Exclude Russia from G8
Russia’s famous right defenders Elena Bonner and Vladimir Bukovsky have addressed U.S. presidential candidates Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama, urging them to exclude Russia from the Group 8. The address of the right defenders is available at anticompromat.ru.
The current political regime in Russia is not only authoritative. It is getting more aggressive, the right defenders specified in their address, blaming on Russia’s leadership mass violations of human rights, tortures, political repressions, political assassinations, genocide in the North Caucasus.

Today’s leadership of the country that tends to stick to the energy blackmail in the foreign policy constitutes a threat to residents of Russia and to western democracy, Bukovsky and Bonner pointed out, emphasizing that the authorities use the G8 membership to confirm Russia’s status as a great power and to affirm accuracy of their policy. The right defenders urged McCain and Obama to enforce Russia’s expulsion from the G8 to signal that, in the United States, they neither fear nor respect aggressive anti-democratic regimes.

The current summit of G8 that is the first for Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev opened in Japan July 7. In capacity of Russia's president, Medvedev had had the first sit-down with George Bush even before the start of the event.
