Ukrainian Clients of Soviet Vneshekonombank Want Their Money Back
Ukrainian clients of Vneshekonombank USSR claim back some $500 million, ITAR-TASS reported July 3 from Kiev, Ukraine.
Ukrainian depositors of former Vneshekonombank USSR have gone to law to claim back around $500 million, the Association of Vneshekonombank USSR Depositors announced July 3.
The organization addressed the Stockholm Arbitration seeking to initiate legal proceedings to enforce on Russia the settlement of that debt to Ukrainian residents, which deposits worth over $500 million were blocked December 31, 1991.
The money of Ukrainian corporations turned into the investments in Russia’s economy and was illegally expropriated, the association said, specifying that the companies-creditors should be paid back their money along with the compensation and damage indemnity.
So far, Russia has manifested no desire to settle the issue off-court, the Ukrainian depositors pointed out to explain their move.
