Medvedev Accepts Abramovich’s Resignation
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed a decree on the early release of Chukotka Autonomous Area Governor Roman Abramovich from office, Interfax reports. The text of the decree, which has been released by the Kremlin press service, indicates that Abramovich had submitted his resignation. “The resignation of Chukotka Autonomous Area Governor R.L. Abramovich is accepted at his desire,” it affirms. The president has appointed Roman Kopin temporary acting governor of Chukotka until Abramovich is replaced. The decree goes into force on the day it is signed.
Roman Kopin was the deputy governor and deputy chairman of the government for industrial and agricultural of the autonomous area. He was born in 1974 in Kostroma. He is a 1996 graduate of the Volgo-Vyatskaya Academy of State Service and is married with one son. He began his career in 1994 as deputy director of the Nizhny Novgorod Center for Youth Initiative. The next year, he began working for the Kostroma customs service as a legal department inspector, then as the head of the group for the implementation of resolutions on cases of rules violations. In 1998, he moved over to the Kostroma regional branch of SBS-Agro Bank.

Kopin was appointed an advisor to the governor of Chukotka in 1999. In 2001, he was elected head of municipal education in Chaunsky District, and in 2003 he was elected head of the Bilibinsky municipal district. In April of this year, he was appointed deputy governor and head of the department for industrial and agricultural policy.
