Russian Army Tests New Mortar
The Russian infantry has begun the final phase of testing of a new mortar complex based on a lightly-armored multipurpose tractor in a mountain test area in the North Caucasus Military District. Deputy commander of the infantry Lieut. Gen. Valery Evnevich is heading the tests. The weapon is being fired in various conditions and at various altitudes.
The self-propelled mortar developed for the mountainous motorized brigade successfully completed testing at the factory already and showed itself to be well suited for use in mountainous areas. The new mortar complex will reduce the time necessary to prepare to fire. It is an improved version of the 2B14-1 Server of 82 mm. caliber. It is easy to disassemble and can be fired from the chassis of a tractor or from the ground. It has amaximum firing range of 4000 meters and is operated by a crew of five men.
