Salaries Grow Fastest in Sakhalin
Sakhalin Region is in first place in Russia for the rate of salary increase in real terms. Salaries there rose by an average of 19.5 percent in the first quarter of the year. Rosstat, the state statistics service, ranked Penza (18.6%) and Saratov (18.7%) Regions and Chukotka Autonomous Area (18.4%) among the leaders as well. The national average for real growth of salaries in the first quarter was 13.4 percent. The average salary in the Russian Federation is 16,428 rubles monthly.
The highest inflation in the first quarter, 9.6 percent, was recorded in the Chechen Republic. The Republic of Ingushetia was in second place with 9.1 percent. Rosstat named rising prices and fees as causes of the high inflation. The Southern Federal District as a whole had the country’s highest inflation as well, although it ranks last for wages. Chechnya was in last place for salary growth at 2.3 percent. It was only slightly bettered by Adygea (5.1%), Karachaevo-Cherkassia (5.5%) and Ingushetia (6.4%).

The lowest inflation was to be found in the Yamal-Nenets District (1.1%). Yakutia (2.5%) and Kemerovo (3.1%) and Tyumen (3.6%) Regions also had good indicators.
