Kazakhstan’s Only Satellite May Be Out
Kazakhstan’s first and only communications satellite, KazSat-1, may be lost, the National Space Agency of Kazakhstan has announced. It stated that there is a “high likelihood” of its loss and opined that the root of the problem lies in the experimental platform for the satellite. “It was chosen without the participation of local specialists. The National Space Agency is analyzing the situation and choosing measures to prevent a similar situation in the future,” the Kazakhstani space agency noted in a press release on Monday.
The KazSat-1 satellite stopped broadcasting on June 8 due to a failure in n on-board digital system. Employees of the Russian company Space Communications and members of the Kazakhstani agency are working to restore the satellite.
