Russia’s President, World Bank Chief Met in Kremlin
Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev met with the World Bank Chief Robert Zoellick in the Kremlin Monday. Zoellick arrived in Moscow on a one-day tour and it is his first visit to Russia in capacity of the World Bank chief.
According to Finance Ministry, deliberating on the World Bank’s involvement in the program for financial competence in Russia is one of highlights of the meeting. Russia is also interested in extending that program to the states of Central Asia, in particular, to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Another purpose of Zoellick’s tour to Moscow is to talk over with Russia’s leadership the World Bank’s initiative aimed at opposing the rise in food prices. The World Bank suggests establishing a $1.2-billion fund to support the poorest nations and work out the standards for farming development.
