A Million Russians to Have New Foreign Passports by Year-End
“Up to a million of foreign passports of new standard are forecasted to be granted by this year-end. More than 568,000 passports of new generation have been made in Russia already,” Russia’s Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliev announced during the summit of G8 interior ministries in Tokyo.
Nurgaliev told his G8 counterparts that the government’s system of producing, executing and controlling passport and visa documents of new generation has been established in Russia. “Past year, we equipped 249 migration divisions of Interior Ministry all over the country, and the plans are to equip another 408 divisions this year,” Nurgaliev specified.
Nurgaliev called on G8 to close ranks to fight the crimes committed by using cyber-technology, to reveal and pull out of the circulation the lost or stolen passports, to introduce biometrical data in the respective documents and to adjust them to common standards.
