Medvedev: Impact of State Award Laureates Is Unique
The impact of the State Award laureates in the country’s development is unique, Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev announced Thursday during the awarding ceremony, which is timed to the Day of Russia celebration.
When awarding the state award winners, Science and Technology nomination, the president first of all drew attention to achievements of mathematician Vladimir Arnold.
“The state award laureates are indeed an outstanding cohort of Russia’s citizens. Among them is mathematician Vladimir Igorevich Arnold, the scientist with the world name and indisputable authority,” Medvedev said.
“Academician Arnold is the creator of modern catastrophe theory. He, in particular, discovered the universal mechanism of instability,” Medvedev said.
The president also singled out research-linguist Andrei Zaliznyak for the great impact in the national and global linguistics. Thanks to the really filigree research of this scientist, the disputes on authenticity of “A Word about Igor's Regiment” were finally completed, the president specified.
The third prizewinner of the nomination is Alexei Khokhlov, one of the world leaders of polymer science. “He is the creator of fundamental theory of polymeric systems, which formed the base for a new scientific direction of polymeric physics, and it is just a portion of his comprehensive and fruitful activities,” the RF president emphasized.
“I think it significant that, for the first time, the named laureates will soon read their special lectures to Russia’s public at large,” Medvedev said.
