Roughly 60% of Russians Know Flag Colors
All-Russia’s Center for Public Opinion Studies held a poll on the eve of the Day of Russia that the nation celebrates today, June 12. The respondents were asked about the state symbols, including the flag colors, and results aren’t particularly soothing.
It emerged that no more than 59 percent of the Russians know colors of their flag and their proper arrangement. Each third respondent (32 percent) named colors but failed to put them in correct sequence.

The results are worse when it comes to the national anthem. No more than 40 percent could sing just the first words of it. But the nation’s knowledge of the RF national emblem inspires optimism – 85 percent managed to describe it.

At the same time, the feelings of respondents towards the national symbols are mostly positive and this positive sentiment strengthens from year to year. Russia’s anthem (which words are unknown to the majority) is the reason of greatest pride and admiration.

Some 52 percent of respondents are proud of flag and 47 percent admire the coat of arms. Some 1 percent to 2 percent of the polled dislike the flag and the coat of arms and another 14 percent to 21 percent feel nothing in respect of the state symbols.

The poll of All-Russia’s Center for Public Opinion Studies was held among 1,600 respondents in 153 settlements of 46 regions, districts and republics of Russia; the statistic error doesn’t exceed 3.4 percent.
