State Duma for Breaking Friendship Treaty with Ukraine
The RF State Duma has urged the president and the government to focus on Russia’s withdrawal from the Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership Treaty with Ukraine if the latter is granted the Membership Action Plan (MAP) of NATO.
Should Ukraine join the Membership Action Plan of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) or should there be any other forced steps on Ukraine’s accession to NATO, these moves could be regarded as Ukraine’s unilateral withdrawal from the Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership Treaty with the RF and Russia’s withdrawal from it is to be considered, says the address that the RF State Duma passed today, June 4, 2008.

According to the MPs, it is necessary to proceed with active protection of Russia’s investors’ rights in Ukraine and endorse appropriations, including from the federal budget, to establish affiliates of Russia’s universities there.

Ukraine’s unilateral decision on the Black Sea Fleet has violated international agreements, the address specifies. Russia’s Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry are to launch active negotiations to sort out practical issues of the RF Black Sea Fleet’s stationing and operation in Ukraine, the State Duma members spelled out in their address.
