No Electric Power Restrictions Planned for Fall, Winter
No restrictions have been planned for the power supply in the fall/winter season of 2008, 2009, RAO UES CEO Anatoly Chubais announced during today’s sitting of the State Duma.
The restrictions were imposed only in winter of 2005 and 2006, and there were no restrictions in the following years, including this one. “For us, the restrictions are the failure to comply, which shouldn’t happen.” “Getting ready for the winter season doesn’t make him super-anxious,” Chubais said.
The official specified at the same time that avoiding restrictions calls for the execution of approved investments programs. According to Chubais, the plans are to put into operation new facilities of 5,700MW this year, launch 10,600MW in 2009 and 12,200MW in 2010. The investments in power engineering are to step up from 815 million ruble in 2007 to 1,120 million ruble this year.
For the purpose of meeting growing domestic demand for electric power, RAO UES of Russia has been annually curtailing its export since 2005, “even when the export was economically profitable,” Chubais said.
