Russia to Contribute More to Global Food Basket
Russia’s contribution to the global food basket will be increasing, Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeev said in the interview with RIA Novosti. Gordeev is in Rome now, attending the Conference on World Food Security held by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
“Russia today is turning into an active participant of lots of food humanitarian programs. We help both by farming product supplies and by money,” the minister specified. In this respect, Russia starts playing a role of a big developed nation, he said.
Russia’s potential hasn’t been used to the full extent, Gordeev said. “Some 14 million hectares of plough land could be developed, which equals 20 million tons of grain.”
As to the Rome conference, Gordeev emphasized the analytical component of it, forecasting that no definite solutions will be taken in the end. The declaration to be passed by its result will define only the vector for further work, according to Gordeev.
