Russia Destroyed ¼ of Chemical Arsenal
In line with the international agreements, Russia has destroyed a quarter of its chemical arsenal, RIA Novosti reported with reference to Valery Kapashin, chief of the Federal Department for Chemical Weapon Safe Storage and Destruction.
Of 40,000 tons of chemical agents, 10,500 have been destroyed during the third stage of the chemical weapon destruction. With funding provided, Russia will be able to execute all commitments, Kapashin said.

Pursuant to the Chemical Weapons Convention, Russia was to destroy a percent of its chemical arsenal (400 tons) by April of 2003, 20 percent (8,000 tons) by April 2007. Those commitments were properly accomplished.

Russia is to destroy 45 percent (18,000 tons) of chemical weapons by December 2009, in time of the third stage. The whole chemical arsenal of Russia is to be destroyed by 2012.
