Fighting Piracy Calls for Closing Ranks
Another capture of cargo ship’s crew by pirates near the Somali coast confirms the need to coordinate navy of all states willing to fight piracy, said Igor Dygalo, the information aid to the RF Navy commander-in-chief.
The pirates captured in the Gulf of Aden Monday a vessel of Dutch Reider Shipping that was heading for Romania’s Constanza. There are four Russian sailors amid the crew.
“Coordinating efforts of all navy in the conflict zones that are subject to piracy will help solve the problem in part. Russia’s Navy has been actively involved in the international exercise in the recent years, training, amid other things, to oppose piracy in the sea, Dygalo said, reminding that Russia has resumed presence in the world ocean.
“More frequent attacks of pirates on Russia’s and foreign ships confirm the appropriateness of the course of the RF military leadership and the General Naval Staff for resuming the presence of Russia’s combat ships in all regions of the world ocean, particularly in the area of intense fishing and shipping, Dygalo said.
