Medvedev Arrived in Kazakhstan on First Official Visit
Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev has arrived in Kazakhstan to negotiate on development of economy, power engineering, investments, oil and gas industry as well as to discuss the issues of foreign policy. It is the first foreign visit paid by Medvedev in president’s capacity.
The plane of Russia’s president has landed in Astana, Kazakhstan. Medvedev will first lay flowers to the Monument to Homeland Defenders and then meet with Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbaev in Ak Orda presidential palace. He will fly from Astana to China May 23.

Russia’s president arrived in Kazakhstan by invitation of Nursultan Nazarbaev. Medvedev announced in late April that he would first visit Kazakhstan and China after the inauguration.

Medvedev had met with Nazarbaev before the current tour. Their last meeting happened at informal summit of CIS held in Moscow February 2008.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Regional Development Minister Dmitry Kozak, Industry and Trade Minister Viktor Khristenko, Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko and other top-ranked bureaucrats accompany the president during the visit. LUKOIL President Vagit Alekperov, Rosneft President Sergei Bogdanchikov, Basic Element Chief Oleg Deripaska, chiefs of RAO UES and Gazprom stand for the business community in president’s delegation.
