Georgia May Support Russia for WTO
Georgia is ready to support Russia’s World Trade Organization membership, if the two countries come to terms and solve the problems that hinder the development of their relations, stated Georgian Ambassador to Russia Erosi Kitsmarishvili. Our position is tied to specific things,” he said on the air on radio Ekho Moskvy. “If those problems are solved, we are ready to support Russia’s membership in the WTO.”
At the end of April in Geneva, Georgia walked out of the negotiating process on Russia’s accession to the WTO, demanding that Russia reverse decisions to provide aid to the residents of Abkhazia and South Ossetia that would involve interacting with the authorities of those breakaway republics.

Katsmarishvili said that Georgia has many reasons “to say such serious words to Russia.” However, he continued, “We have come to the most complicated layer of our relations and I hope that we can come to terms and we do not have to speak in such tones any more.”
