Zenit Players Brought UEFA Cup to the Kremlin
Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev met with the team of FC Zenit that won the UEFA Cup Wednesday. The meeting took place in the Kremlin’s Catherine Hall decorated in blue and white colors of Zenit.
Apart from the victorious team, Russia’s Minister of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy Vitaly Mutko took part in the event. Mutko heads Russia’s Football Union. Team’s captain Anatoly Timoshchuk brought the Cup that was placed on a white table in the center of the hall.
St. Petersburg Zenit triumphed in the UEFA final, having defeated 2-0 Scotland’s Rangers in Manchester. Zenit is the second club of Russia that won the UEFA trophy. Moscow CSKA broke the ground in 2005.
Thousands of fans hailed the team in St. Petersburg and Zenit delivered the 15kg silver trophy to Moscow on Friday.
