Oboronprom Makes Deal with Italians
OAO OPK Oboronprom and Italian helicopter maker Augusta Westland plan to announce the beginning of long-term cooperation at the HeliRussia 2008 first annual exhibition on May 16. Their deal will have a number of stages, beginning with exclusive distribution of the Italian helicopter by the Russian company, followed by servicing and finally assembly of the helicopters, sometime after 2010.
The Augusta Westland AW139 is the most likely candidate for inclusion in the deal. The Russian company will continue developing its own model, the Ka-62, at the same time, as part of the Federal Target Program for the Development of Civil Aviation Technology through 2015. Like the AW139, the Ka-62 will have a takeoff weight of 6.5 tons.

Oboronprom is the managing company of the helicopter-making holding consisting of Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant, Kamov, Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant, Kazan Helicopter Plant, Rosvertol, Forward Moscow Heavy Industry Plant, Stupinksoe Heavy Industry Production Enterprise and Kamov Holding. It is owned by the Federal Agency for the Management of Federal Property (Rosimushchestvo) (51%), Rosoboronexport (31.13%), the Republic of Tatarstan (150.7%) and Rosvertol (2.79%). Its authorized capital is 4,299,644,000 rubles.
