American Military Attaches Being Expelled
Russian authorities have ordered the expulsion of two American military attaches who are currently located at the U.S. embassy in Moscow, the Associated Press reports, citing U.S. State Department sources. The State Department has confirmed that it will comply with the order, although the U.S. side objects to it. The Russian Foreign Ministry is not commenting on that information, not has the U.S. embassy in Moscow confirmed it. An embassy spokesman said that only the State Department is authorized to announce to release such information.
The order was given to the Americans on April 28, but only publicized now.

The U.S. expelled two members of the Russian diplomatic mission to the U.S., one in November of last year and one on April 22. U.S. authorities deny any connection between those events. A State Department source emphasized that the U.S. administration sees the cases as separate. It is also known that the individuals being expelled have not been declared personae non gratae, not have they been accused of espionage or other offenses.
