Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev has proposed to the State Duma to endorse Vladimir Putin as prime minister of the country, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the president’s press service.

Dmitry Medvedev that won the presidential election March 2 has sworn in as Russia’s president today, May 7, 2008. Under the RF Constitution, the government resigns to the new president, who has two weeks to propose a prime minister to the lower house of parliament. Medvedev needed no time to choose the PM.
He made his choice far back in past December. After four parties nominated him the presidential candidate December 11, 2007, Medvedev addressed Putin with the request to head the cabinet and got his agreement.
According to RIA Novosti, Putin will meet with leaders of the parliament factions and associations today and the State Duma will focus on his candidacy tomorrow. The result of the discussion is easy to predict.
Putin needs at least 226 votes to be endorsed as the PM, and the ruling United Russia (315 seats), LDPR (40) and Fair Russia (38) have already voiced their support. The Communist Party intends to vote against this office of Putin, but its faction has no more than 57 seats in the State Duma.
