Ukraine Has Highest Inflation in CIS
In the first quarter of 2008, Ukraine had the highest inflation rate in the CIS, according to the CIS Interregional Statistics Committee. In the first three months of this year, consumer price growth in Ukraine reached 9.7 percent. In the same period of last year, inflation was 1.3 percent in Ukraine.
Price growth in Russia in the first quarter was 4.8 percent. The same inflation rate was recorded in Armenia. In Kazakhstan, the rate was 2.5 percent. In Tajikistan, it was 2.6 percent; in Georgia 3.4 percent and in Moldova and Belarus 4.1 percent.
Ukraine’s inflation rate is twice that of Russia. In March, inflation in Ukraine reached 3.8 percent, when that country’s Ministry of the Economy had predicted 2 percent. It was reported earlier that the Ukrainian government intends to raise its forecast for the year to 14.6-percent inflation.
