Ukraine Responded to Russia’s Missile by Protest Note
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has handed over to its Russia’s counterpart a protest note in response to the recent test of the air-to-underwater missile by the Black Sea Fleet, Ukrainian News reported.
According to Ukrainian media, frontier guards discovered the missile in Crimea’s Alushta region in late April. The missile was tested April 15 and that test hadn’t been agreed on with Ukrainian authorities, said Vasily Kirilich, the spokesman of Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. Therefore, the agreement on stationing the Black Sea Fleet in Ukraine had been violated, the diplomat specified.
The tricky point is the difference in description of missile and in discovery date. Some sources claim it was found April 27, others give May 1 as the finding date. The new missile was lost in time of the test, UNIAN reported without giving any details.
According to Glavred (with due reference to Vladimir Ivanov, the chief of the Emergency Ministry’s department in Crimea), the frontier guards of Ukraine discovered “a fragment of the training missile” in Alushta region and that fragment was disposed of by the Defense Ministry of Ukraine.
