Penza Hermits Stay Underground
Despite a collapse near the entrance to the cave, the Penza hermits intend to remain underground. “After Ministry of Emergency Situation personnel finished the earth works today, I spoke with the leader of the people who remain underground Vasily Prokofyev,” administrator of Bekov District, Penza Region, Vladimir Provotorov reported by telephone on Thursday.
Provotorov said that the hermits are still not saying when they will emerge. “They have the opportunity to leave at any moment, I told their leader that today,” Provotorov said. He also stated that, at the initiative of the people in the cave, contact with the authorities will be maintained from now by writing notes.

Provotorov added that, according to the hermit leader, they have dug a well inside the cave and they will not take water from district authorities. They claim to have food as well. The district administrator denied media reports that one of the hermits had left the cave during the night.
