Goalie of Russia’s Squad Not to Play in Quebec, Halifax
Semyon Varlamov, the key goalie of Russia’s hockey squad, will miss the beginning of the IIHF world hockey championship that starts in Quebec City and Halifax May 2, Sport TV Channel reported. Varlamov injured his footstep during the training. He won’t play at least for a week and the Russians will have to do without him when opposing Italy, Denmark and the Czech Republic.
Chief coach of Russia’s hockey squad Vyacheslav Bykov has goalies Alexander Eremenko and Mikhail Biryukov at his disposal. Legendary Vladislav Tretiak set to training them a day before the tournament’s start.
Russia’s coaches count on reinforcing the team by Evgeni Nabokov, who is the goalie at San Hose Sharks, but his team continues the quest for the Stanley Cup. San Hose yields to Dallas (1-3) in the second play-off round of four-victory series.
