Zenit Crushed Bayern Munchen, Reached UEFA Final
Even without suspended Andrei Arshavin, FC Zenit crushed FC Bayern München in their UEFA Cup semi-final second leg played at Petrovsky Stadium and advanced to the European final. Arshavin was disqualified during the first match of the teams that was played in Munich and ended by the draw of 1-1.
The hosts opened the score at the fourth minute, when Pavel Pogrebnyak delivered the penalty-kick through the wall of Bayern. It was the tenth goal of Pogrebnyak in the UEFA Cup and it made him equal the tournament’s best striker Luca Toni of Bayern.

At the 39th minute, Konstantin Zyrianov benefited from the pass of Alejandro Dominguez to deliver the second goal for Zenit.

Staking on solid defense and counterattacks, the hosts scored again at the 54th minute. Alexander Anyukov delivered a cross into the area and Viktor Faizulin hit with his head for the third score.

The guests lost the last hope at the 73rd minute, when Pogrebnyak scored again to overwhelm Toni in the best strikers’ competition.

The bad news is that Pogrebnyak got the second yellow card in the remaining minutes and won’t play at the final in Manchester May 14.
