Russia, Ukraine to Construct Ruslan An-124-100 Anew
Russia and Ukraine have agreed to resume in the third quarter the construction of world biggest commercial transport aircraft, Ruslan An-124-100, Russia’s PM Viktor Zubkov said Monday.
“The definite decision was made to resume production of joint aircraft, Ruslan An-124, in the third quarter, for example,” Zubkov said by results of the sitting of the Economic Cooperation Committee of Russia’s-Ukrainian Interstate Commission.
Ruslan An-124 is a unique plane that has no rivals on the modern market in combination of the weight-lifting, flying range and cost. It is the only plane in the world capable of lifting the cargo of up to 150 tons.
Designed by Antonov Research and Construction Bureau in 1982, Ruslan An-124-100 and An-124-100M-150, had been constructed in Kiev and Ulyanovsk till 1995. With the takeoff weight of roughly 400 tons, Ruslan may carry the cargo of up to 150 tons to the distance of over 3,000 kilometers.
