Russia Goes Through Demographic Boom
Russia experiences a real demographic boom, Health Minister Tatiana Golikova said.
Two million babies were born in Russia in the past year and a half, Golikova said during the sitting of the ministry’s board. None of developed nations manifests such rates, the minister pointed out.
But not the happy news was the highlight of the board during that meeting. The fact is that the growth in death rates of babies, who aren’t a year old, was registered in 48 constituents of Russia in the past four months.
The death rate grew in the Irkutsk and Vladimir regions, in Altai, the minister specified. It is very high in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District, Amur region, in Dagestan and in some other constituents.
The Health Ministry plans to halt the population decline by 2011, stabilizing the number at 143 million people.
