Saakashvili Blamed on Russia Legalization of Ethnic Purge in Abkhazia
Georgia’s President Mikhail Saakashvili has blamed on Russia the legalization of the ethnic purge in Abkhazia. Nowadays, Russia helps Abkhazia legalize the ethnic purge that it has effected, Saakashvilike said when addressing the nation by TV.
According to Saakashvili, all recent actions of Russia towards Georgia were clearly illegal, unfair, unacceptable and dangerous both for Georgia as a region and worldwide. Georgia has spared no effort to improve the relations with Russia, Saakashvili pointed out, mentioning a few successful moves that resumed direct air and postal links between the states.

For the purpose of conflict settlement, Saakashvili went on, Georgia had offered to separatists the autonomy rights of no precedent and its plan for peace settlement was backed up by the international community, NATO, EU and the United States. But Georgia faced only aggression and provocation moves of Russia’s government in return, Saakashvili pointed out.

Russia unilaterally withdrew from the CIS Treaty that imposed economic and military sanctions on Abkhazia, Saakashvili said. Russia actually denounced Georgia’s sovereignty in Abkhazia and South Ossetia past week. What’s more, it shot down unmanned and unarmed jet of Georgia, committing an act of aggression towards it and carrying an air attack on its territory, the president said, pledging that Georgia would defend its integrity and proceed with the diplomatic efforts aimed at securing its defense and safety.
