Russia Elaborates Damage Suits to Noga
The RF government is elaborating damage suits to Noga, by which demand the accounts of Russia’s state companies were frozen in France in early this year.
It emerged in January of 2008 that a few accounts of Russia’s companies, including the account of RIA Novosti news agency with VTB Finance, were frozen in France by demand of Noga. Noga seeks to enforce on Russia the payment of 1990s debts.

“I don’t remember at what stage the suits are, but they are being prepared for sure,” Deputy Finance Minister Dmitry Pankin told RIA Novosti. Pankin attends Russia Investment Roadshow in London.

The bureaucrat refused to specify the date of lodging the suits and their amount.

Swiss Noga claims roughly ˆ49 million from Russia. On January 2, 2008, it set to freezing the accounts of Russia’s companies and departments in France. The RF Finance Ministry responded January 14, vowing to contest freezing accounts, and the RF Foreign Ministry delivered a protest note to French authorities. The accounts were unfrozen very soon but Moscow voiced the intention to seek damage compensation through court.
