Finance Rated Russia’s Biggest Companies
Russia’s gas monopoly Gazprom rates the first on the list of the country’s biggest companies released by Finance edition. The company is three-times ahead of its nearest competitor Rosneft in terms of capitalization - $298.3 billion vs. $95.6 billion respectively.
Unlike most of ratings, Finance compares nonpublic companies in addition to the public ones. That method of coverage explains the third position of the railway monopoly RZD in the list. RZD could cost some $80 billion on the market, according to Finance.
Sberbank and LUKOIL are the last of five leaders, while the top 10 also sets forth Norilsk Nickel, RAO UES of Russia, RUSAL, Surgutneftegaz and VimpelCom. The capitalization of the leader and the tenth company differs by over $260 billion.
Finance rating covers 176 companies, each of which worth more than $1 billion. Transcreditbank, Tekhnosila and Mail.ru are the last on the list.
One of the major surprises is the capitalization victory of VimpelCom (Beeline) over its major rival MTS, the more so that MTS scores the first in Eastern Europe in subscriber base. The third cellular giant, MegaFon, rates the 19th with the estimated capitalization of $20 billion.
