McCain: Russia Blocks All Sanctions On Iran
Washington is unable to impose tough sanctions on Iran, as Russia blocks all efforts of the U.N. Security Council, Sen. John McCain, who is the Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting, made clear in the interview with ABC.
In the Sunday interview with ABC, McCain emphasized his belief in the decisive role of tough sanctions for sorting out the problem of Iran’s nuclear program. The sanctions have never been sufficiently tough, as the Russians blocked all efforts of Washington in the U.N. Security Council, according to the U.S. senator.

Acting within the League of Democracies may help settle the problem, the senator was sure. The League of Democracies unites nations of values and aims that control a sizeable portion of global economy and it could be very efficient, McCain said, pointing out that he knew how to work with the allies and League of Democracies to elaborate efficient sanctions on Iran.

The senator said he had deliberated on the issue with France's President Nicolas Sarkozy and Britain’s PM Gordon Brown. The sanctions will work, as Iran depends on overseas refining by 40 percent and its economy is poor all petrodollars notwithstanding, according to the senator.
