Rostekhnadzor to Report on Nuclear Safety to IAEA
Russia’s federal environmental, technological and nuclear watchdog Rostekhnadzor will submit April 18 to IAEA the RF national report on nuclear and radiological safety, RIA Novosti reported referring to the news service of Rostekhnadzor.
The report of Rostekhnadzor specifies changes in the RF laws and regulations related to the nuclear industry and describes activities of Russia’s Atomic Energy Agency, Rosenergoatom. The report also defines the condition of storing radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel.
IAEA meets in Vienna once in three years to discuss national reports under the Convention on Nuclear Safety that currently unites 61 states. The document defines responsibilities of the member-states, including the safety priority at nuclear plants, creation of legal framework for atomic power engineering and establishment of an independent supervisory body. It also spells out responsibility of the license holder as well as the issues of quality control and evaluation of safety and emergency preparedness.
